Similar to gold plating, gold vermeil features a layer of gold over a sterling silver base. To qualify as true vermeil, the silver must be marked 925, and the gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns thick. This makes gold vermeil a higher-quality choice than standard gold plating, and an excellent alternative for anyone with sensitivities to nickel, brass, or copper.
